Why Uncommon Solar Choose SunPower Max

The successor to the Maxeon 7, with more of everything that matters.

The SunPower Max replaces the Maxeon 7 at the top of the SunPower residential range. It produces up to 505 watts at 24.7% efficiency using N-Type Back Contact cells in a glass-glass frame, and carries a 30-year warranty covering product, performance, and service.

Back Contact technology has defined SunPower’s premium panels for decades. The Max brings that architecture into a new panel format with more power, higher efficiency, and glass-glass construction. It is the strongest residential panel in the SunPower lineup, and one of the highest-performing panels available in Australia in 2026.

That is why we use it on the homes we install across Melbourne and Gippsland.

How it performs in our conditions

How the Max performs in Melbourne and Gippsland

Heat

Melbourne roof surfaces regularly exceed 65 degrees Celsius in summer. The Max has a temperature coefficient of -0.26% per degree Celsius. The Back Contact design also reduces hotspot formation, protecting cell health through the repeated heating and cooling cycles of Melbourne’s seasons.

Shade

The Back Contact architecture reduces internal resistance variations that cause hotspot formation in conventional panels under shade. On Melbourne suburban blocks and Gippsland properties where antennas, vent pipes, and rooflines cause partial shading, this translates to better output consistency and better long-term cell health.

Reduced hotspot formation under shade

Coastal durability

Glass on both sides of the panel removes the polymer backsheet failure mode. Salt-laden air and year-round humidity along the Bass Strait coastline and across the South Gippsland Shire accelerate breakdown of standard backsheets. Glass does not degrade the same way.

Grid compatibility

The Max is compatible with AusNet Services, United Energy, and CitiPower distribution networks. The 1500V DC system voltage gives more flexibility in how your system is designed and wired. We handle the grid connection paperwork as part of every installation.

The SunPower Max carries a 30-year warranty covering product, power output, and service. It is one of the longer warranty terms available on a residential panel in Australia.

The warranted output figures are the contractual floor. Real-world performance on well-maintained Back Contact glass-glass panels typically tracks above these minimums.

The 30-year term requires registration. Without registration, a 25-year warranty applies. Uncommon Solar registers every system we install.

Manufacturer

Who makes the SunPower Max

The SunPower Max is manufactured by TCL Zhonghuan Energy Technology (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd., part of the TCL group, and is made in China. SunPower now operates under the TCL SunPower Global brand. The panel holds BloombergNEF Tier 1 status as of January 2026.

The Back Contact cell architecture in the Max has its roots in SunPower’s cell development work going back decades. TCL Zhonghuan is one of the world’s largest solar manufacturers, bringing significant production scale to that platform.

The Max is listed under the Solar Stewardship Initiative. SunPower states the panel is fully traceable from polysilicon source to finished product.

TCL is not just a solar manufacturer. It is a global technology company with over 30 years in consumer electronics manufacturing, operations in over 160 countries, AFL naming rights sponsorship in Australia, and a product range spanning televisions, appliances, phones, and now solar. The SunPower Max sits at the top of a very short list: a Back Contact panel at 24.7% efficiency, with a 30-year warranty, backed by a company with the financial scale to honour it. That is what backs every Max panel we install.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the SunPower Max?

The SunPower Max is a residential solar panel producing 490 to 505 watts at up to 24.7% efficiency. It uses N-Type Back Contact cells in a glass-glass frame and carries a 30-year warranty covering product, power, and service. It is the successor to the SunPower Maxeon 7 and is manufactured by TCL Zhonghuan Energy Technology under the SunPower brand.

The Max produces significantly more power, up to 505 watts versus the Maxeon 7’s 445 watts, and reaches higher efficiency at 24.7% versus 24.1%. It upgrades from glass-backsheet construction to glass-glass, and increases the maximum system voltage from 1000V to 1500V. The core Back Contact cell architecture carries across from the Maxeon 7.

Back Contact cells move all electrical contacts to the rear of the panel, removing metal busbars from the front face entirely. More of the cell surface is exposed to sunlight. The result is a higher efficiency ceiling than front-contact cells can reach, lower operating temperatures, and reduced risk of hotspot formation. Back Contact is the technology that has defined SunPower’s premium panel range for decades.

The Max has a temperature coefficient of -0.26% per degree Celsius. For every degree your roof temperature rises above 25 degrees Celsius, the panel loses 0.26% of its rated output. The Back Contact architecture also reduces hotspot formation compared to conventional panels, which protects cell health through Melbourne’s seasonal temperature extremes.

Yes. The glass-glass construction is well suited to coastal conditions. Salt-laden air and higher humidity along the Bass Strait coastline and across South Gippsland accelerate the breakdown of polymer backsheets on standard panels. Glass on both sides of the Max removes that failure mode entirely.

The SunPower Max carries a 30-year warranty covering product, power output, and service. Year 1 warranted output is 99.0%. Maximum annual degradation is 0.35% per year. After 25 years, SunPower guarantees at least 90.6% of original output. After 30 years, at least 88.8%. The 30-year term requires registration. Uncommon Solar registers every system we install.
